Garden Walk
Over 340 gardening enthusiasts attended the Oshkosh Garden Club’s first Garden Walk on Saturday, July 18, 2009. The event was held in pleasantly cool weather between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Adult tickets were $8 in advance or $10 on the day of the Walk; children under 18 years were free.
Six outstanding private gardens in Oshkosh were open for viewing. The gardens provided ideas and inspiration for a variety of garden situations. Featured on the walk included gardening in containers, gardening on a small site, making the most of shady and sunny conditions, and water gardening.
Homeowners and garden club members were on hand at each garden to share information about the site. In addition, experts from Stuart’s Landscaping and Garden Center showcased new products and answered gardening questions from the 4526 Stonefield Dr. location during the event.
Four $50 gift certificates and one Spring Snow crabapple tree donated by Stuart’s Landscaping and Garden Center were raffled during the event. Winners of the $50 gift certificates were: Dennis Clark, Oshkosh; Judy Fischer, Marshfield; Dorothy Last, Oshkosh; and Nancy Nigl, Oshkosh. Dara Sitter of Oshkosh was the winner of the grand prize crabapple tree, which included delivery and planting and was valued at $350. Congratulations to all our winners and thanks to Stuart’s Landscaping and Garden Center for their support of the Garden Walk!
Thanks, too, to all the homeowners for opening their gardens and sharing their expertise. As Elizabeth Lawrence writes, “Any garden demands as much of its maker as he has to give. But … no other undertaking will give as great a return for the amount of effort put into it.” Gardeners - we appreciate your generosity!
