The Scholarship Luncheon is held in November on the Saturday before Thanksgiving at the Oshkosh Country Club, 11 W. Ripple Ave., Oshkosh. This event features a gourmet meal and professional entertainment. Members sell tickets, provide gift baskets for a raffle, and bake a variety of cookies for dessert. “Club members work very hard to make this luncheon a success,” reports member, Peg Rieckman. “The club relies on the proceeds of this event to fund its annual scholarships and other service activities in our community.”
The sold out 2009 luncheon featuring Glamarama Cabaret took place on Saturday, November 21, 2009. Two hundred forty-five guests enjoyed the cabaret-style entertainment provided by the trio of women singers and dancers from Green Bay, WI.
Proceeds from the luncheon enable the Oshkosh Garden Club to give up to $2000 in annual scholarships to local students. The club has sponsored a scholarship since 1983. College students majoring in horticulture or a related science area are eligible for these awards.
We are pleased to announce Crystal Seeley is the recipient of a $1000 scholarship award for 2009. Crystal graduated from Oshkosh North High School in 2007. She is presently a junior at Iowa State University majoring in horticulture with an emphasis on fruit and vegetable production.
A number of local businesses contributed to the success of this year’s luncheon. We thank the Oshkosh Country Club for hosting the event and the following businesses for their special contributions:
- A Cut Above for 2 $5 gift certificates for each table.
- Christensen’s for a $20 gift certificate.
- Impressions for a $20 gift certificate.
- Karniby’s for a $25 gift certificate and 20% off coupons for each guest.
- Sundquist’s for a holiday area rug.
- The Landscape Company for 2 $10 gift certificates and plant materials for the table centerpieces.
The 2010 Scholarship Luncheon will be held Saturday, November 20, 2010.
